If you’re like me a few years back, during your travel, you spot a cool postcard and you decide to keep it as a souvenir. We’re not using the postcards the way it’s meant to be used.

Why not send your friends, family, or even yourself a postcard from a city you’re visiting?

Here’s a simple guide to help you what to write on a postcard:

STEP 1. Stick the postage stamps. You may use more than one stamp as long as you reach the amount necessary. In the Philippines, you need P15, no matter what country you’re sending your card to. You may use three P5 stamps, or a P17 stamp, or one P10 stamp paired with a P5 stamp. Make sure you’re using mint stamps, which means they have never been used or cancelled or postmarked. I like sticking the stamps first so I know how much space I still have left for writing and decorating later.

STEP 2. This space is for the recipient’s address. Write the recipient’s country in all capital letters. When you’re writing the address, make sure there are no other stuff written below it that will confuse the postal service workers. In some cases, you don’t have to write the full name of the recipient. I’ve sent postcards with the first name of the recipient only. I’ve even seen a postcard without the name of the recipient.

STEP 3. Somewhere at the top, write the date. I’ve received and sent postcards that include the temperature. Feel free to write whatever information you wanna include. No one’ll stop you.

STEP 4. Decorate. Write how your day has been. Say something about the place you just visited. Write whatever. You can use stickers and washi tapes. I’ve used teks, eki stamps, newspaper strips, cinderella stamps (stuff that look like stamps but actually aren’t), and stickers from random products I bought.

Here’s an example. Let’s say you’re sending yourself a postcard because it’d be cool to have something to look forward to after your trip. Also, it’s better to use postcards the way they’re supposed to be used, yeah? Send ‘em to yourself, or to your friends and family!

Feel free to send a random postcard to that address you see above. That is my postcrossing/mailing address. (You may populate it with stickers. Or extra cool stamps. T_T)

I hope this guide was helpful! Enjoy!
