The American rock group Linkin Park has excited fans after they announced Tuesday, Feb. 7 (Philippine time), that they will be releasing a “new, never-before-heard song from Meteora,” their second album released in 2003.
Apparently, their 20-year-old album, which includes their hits such as “Somewhere I Belong,” “Lying From You,” “Faint,” Breaking the Habit,” “From the Inside,” and “Numb,” has at least one song that the public has never heard of.
A short audio clip of the song, titled “Lost,” was posted through their official social media account when the announcement was made. The audio clip features the voice of their former frontman Chester Bennington, who died of suicide in July 2017.
The song will be released on Friday, Feb. 10, 1 p.m. (Philippine time) via Apple Music, Deezer, and Spotify. Their official YouTube account also has a set premiere date for the official music video.
The music video will feature an artificial intelligence artwork produced by AI company Kaiber and the AI collective Sagans.
A commenter on Reddit said that Linkin Park’s use of AI has not surprised them at all.
“Linkin Park (has) always been experimental with what they do,” r/Starrdust91 said. “They already have an anime music video in ‘Breaking the Habit,’ so that wouldn’t be anything new. Using AI to create something would be something they haven’t done before and is in keeping with current trends. Don’t understand why people are against LP staying relevant.”
As of this writing, the song is already available in Spotify in New Zealand. The rest of the world will have to wait for a new song with Bennington’s voice.
