✨✨✨ANNOUNCEMENT (VERSION 1 – May 15, 2023)✨✨✨

Dear all,

Please use this guide for your final project. I am getting a lot of questions via email. I may not be able to respond to all of them because I am computing grades at the moment while also doing preparations in my classes in MA.

FORMAT OF THE HARDBOUND:

  1. Please arrange the submissions according to group. Each group will have a title page with a fictitious name for a newspaper. You will need this name for your news and features (e.g., let’s say your newspaper’s name is Ang Pagharang, then when quoting someone, you say, “…blah blah told Ang Pagharang.”)
  2. The arrangement will be:
    1. NEWS
    1. FEATURES
    1. OPINION/EDITORIAL
  3. Speaking of opinion/editorial, you are free to choose between the two. An editorial is a newspaper’s stance on issues, while an opinion is the writer’s opinion on issues. Therefore,
    1. If you are going to write an editorial, it should not be signed or it should not have a byline. You will also use “we” or “this paper” or “Ang Pagharang” in sentences like, “This paper believes that it is the right time for the Philippines to legalize blah blah blah.”
    1. If you are going to write an opinion, it should have a title and it should have the writer’s name. Unlike your news, features, and editorial, I discourage groups from writing opinion (or column) articles as collab. This should be done by one writer only.
  4. As I mentioned in my email, there should be photos for features. These photos should have captions and the name of the person who took the photos. DO NOT USE PHOTOS THAT YOU DO NOT OWN.
  5. Photos for the hard news are optional.
  6. You may put the photo on the same page as the article or you may put them in a separate sheet. It doesn’t matter how.
  7. Please do not use fancy fonts for your news, features, and editorial.
  8. Do not include page numbers.

SUBMISSION:

  1. Like I said, the governor will collect the submissions from all groups. As of now, the deadline is still May 16. The governor will take note of all the groups that submit on time.
  2. The governor will also note those submitted after May 16.
  3. The deadliest deadline is May 23. Before 5 p.m. that day, all papers should be up for hardbound.

DEADLINE:

  1. May 16 – without deductions
  2. May 17 to 23 – with deductions per day
  3. Beyond May 23, 5 p.m. – will not be accepted
  4. I expect that these dates will change. The submission of grades for the graduating class was moved, so maybe the university will also move the deadline.

This is VERSION 1 of this announcement. I will be contacting class governors if there are changes to this announcement.
