On Jan. 15, the 4th year Journalism, Broadcasting and Communication students will have their internship orientation from 7:30 a.m. until the afternoon. On Jan. 19, I will be outside of the university for an official travel as the Budyong adviser. The editorial staff will be competing at the 21st Regional Tertiary Schools Press Conference. I have already informed your respective class governors that we will not be meeting this week. Instead, I will be expecting everyone to answer the following questions: 1. What are your expectations for this class? 2. What do you think of when you hear the word film? Or movie? 3. What was the last film that you saw and you really liked? Briefly exlain why you liked it. In the subject section, please type “Week 1.” After answering these questions, please read these: The Invention of the Movies (About 1 Hour of Reading) History of Philippine Cinema (About 15 Minutes of Reading) | Please submit your answers before our next class and read the book at least a day before our next class. We will have a quiz on these readings two weeks from now (after a class discussion on these). Reminder: Please watch “Insiang.” |

Week 4 Feb. 5 (Journ 2A) Feb. 9 (Journ 2B) | Readings: Readings on Philippine Cinema – Part I (History) | The class will be asked to write a synthesis of the readings made. The 500-word synthesis should integrate key information, analyze different perspectives, and present a cohesive understanding of the historical developments in Philippine cinema. Please do not exceed the word count. Upload your work in docx file so I can run it on a plagiarism checker. Please do not upload a PDF file. Submit your work through the submission bin below. Criteria for Judging a Movie Essay (25% each):
- Understanding: Does the essay demonstrate a clear understanding of the film’s plot, characters, and themes?
- Analysis: Does the essay provide insightful analysis of the film’s elements and its relationship with the framework used?
- Critical Thinking: Does the essay offer original and thought-provoking ideas about the film’s meaning or impact?
- Organization: Is the essay well-organized, with a logical structure that makes it easy to follow?
Criteria for Judging a Movie Review (25% each):
- Clarity: Is the review easy to understand, with a clear opinion about the film’s strengths and weaknesses?
- Engagement: Does the review engage the reader, making them interested in watching the film?
- Support: Does the review support its opinions with specific examples from the film?
- Conciseness: Is the review concise and to the point, without unnecessary detail or repetition?
